German submarine U-47 was a Type VIIB submarine of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II. She was laid down on February 25, 1937 at the Friedrich Krupp Germaniawerft plant in Kiel under the number 582 and entered service on December 17, 1938 under the command of Gunther Prin.
During her career, U-47 sank a total of 31 enemy vessels and damaged eight more, including the British battleship HMS Royal Oak on October 14, 1939. U-47 is considered one of the most successful German submarines in the world. The Second War
